Keep it local and independent

The Importance of Canadian Content in Broadcasting

  • The Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission requires Co-Op Radio to play 35% Canadian Content for English-language programs.   “She-Boom!” aims to meet that standard every episode. Every episode has a playlist of approximately 30 songs, therefore 10 songs must be Canadian.
  • Local/CDN artists registered under SOCAN can receive funding when their music is played.  Every program at CFRO is required to record every spoken word/music piece it airs.
  • American broadcasting and media is extremely prevalent in Canada. It is important that Canadians have programs made for Canadians, by Canadians.
